Dropping a Dependent

A dependent may be ineligible for coverage in certain Company benefit plans due to a change in family or employment status or ‘life event.’ Examples of these life events are: a change in your work schedule, divorce, death, or a child ceases to satisfy the requirements for dependents.

If You Need to Change… Then You Need to…

Dependent information — removing your dependent from your record

Complete the Benefit Change Form. Fax it to 713-513-4495, mail it to the Marathon Oil Benefits Department at Health & Welfare Benefits, 5555 San Felipe Street, Houston, TX 77056, or scan and email it to MROBenefitsHelp@MarathonOil.com.

Federal and/or state tax withholding

Go to HR Central, then select the action tab drop down under 'My Self' and choose 'Payroll and Time.'

Health, Dental and/or Vision coverage

  • When your dependent is no longer eligible for coverage under the Company benefits, you must notify the Marathon Oil Benefits Department within 31 days of the date of the event. Print the Benefit Change Form, complete it and fax it to 713-513-4495, mail to the Marathon Benefits Department, Health & Welfare Benefits, 5555 San Felipe Street, Houston, TX 77056, or scan and email it to MROBenefitsHelp@MarathonOil.com.

If you miss the 31-day deadline, your benefit coverage level could be affected due to the rules of the Contribution Conversion Plan (CCP) — which is governed by the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, not by Marathon Oil. For instance, if you’re married and this is the last child covered on your benefit plans (and you did not notify us within the 31-day time frame), you cannot change your coverage category from Employee & Family to Employee & Spouse until Benefits Open Enrollment in the fall, with an effective date of the following January 1. While your dependent would not have benefit coverage, you would still be required to pay the Employee & Family premium through the remainder of the year.

COBRA coverage

  • Continuation of coverage in the Health plans will be offered to your eligible dependents, provided they were covered by the plans at the time of the qualifying event (if the Company is notified within 60 days of the date of the event).
  • Additional COBRA information can be found here.
  • COBRA rates are on the last page of the document found here.
